New Millennium Serial Killers You May Not Have Heard of

While it may be comforting to think that the “Golden Age of Serial Killers” is long gone, but the reality is that numerous murderers are still roaming the streets. Despite the notorious names of infamous deceased killers such as Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz, Jeffrey Dahmer, and the recent identification and death of The Zodiac Killer, the new millennium still holds a terrifying list of serial killers.

It is quite alarming to know that many notorious and dangerous serial killers are still out there on the loose, evading the long arm of the law and continuing to commit heinous atrocities. It is a stark reminder that our society is not immune to these horrific crimes. We must remain vigilant and cognizant of our surroundings at all times, to stay safe and prevent any incidents from occurring.

Here, we present to you a list of 16 possibly lesser-known, but serial killers nonetheless who have been active in the 21st century. We must remain informed about these individuals and work towards ensuring a safer future.

I-70 Killer

The spring of 2022 marked the 30th anniversary of a string of unsolved murders along a stretch of Interstate 70. Between April 8 and May 7, 1992, six people were shot and killed in Indiana, Kansas, and Missouri. The victims were all store clerks, and all were young, white women with long brown hair. They were all killed with a .22 caliber bullet, and there was no evidence of sexual assault or robbery.

Police have released a sketch of the suspect, but he has never been identified. He is described as white, with reddish or light brown hair, between 140 and 160 pounds, and around 5-foot-7.

In late 2021, law enforcement released a new sketch of the killer, based on witness accounts and aged to depict what the killer would look like three decades on. They also released a description of the gun used in the murders, which is a historic remake of an old German Navy pistol with a long barrel and a wooden forearm.

Police are still searching for the I-70 killer, and they are asking anyone with information to come forward. The case is still very much open, and there is still hope that someone will come forward with the information that leads to an arrest.

Wesley Brownlee

Wesley Brownlee, 43, of Stockton, was arrested on Saturday, October 15, 2022, in connection with a series of shootings that left six men dead and one woman wounded in Stockton and Oakland, California.

After his release, Vann returned to his home state of Indiana. In July 2013, he killed 19-year-old Afrikka Hardy. He strangled her and left her body in the bathtub of a motel room.

Vann was caught on surveillance cameras leaving the motel room. When police questioned him, he confessed to killing Hardy and six other women. He led investigators to the bodies of the six women, which he had left in abandoned buildings around Gary, Indiana.

Vann is facing charges of murder, rape, attempted murder, and criminal confinement. He is also facing the death penalty for his crimes.

Police linked some of the body parts found in the grave to unidentified victims whose bodies had been found miles away, dating back to 1996. Most of the victims are believed to be sex workers who advertised on Craigslist, but only a few have been positively identified.

One of the victims was Melissa Barthelemy, who had disappeared from her home in the Bronx in 2009. Her parents called the police, but authorities did not take their concerns seriously until Barthelemy’s little sister started receiving phone calls from a mysterious number. The caller would say, “I killed Melissa.”

Despite some leads, the killer has not been identified and remains at large.

Keyes was eventually caught in Texas after using Koenig’s ATM card. He was extradited to Alaska and charged with rape, kidnapping, and murder. He confessed to murdering four individuals in Washington state and one in New York and is suspected of more crimes. Keyes committed suicide in his jail cell in December 2012, before he could be convicted of any of his crimes.

Keyes was a complex and elusive individual. He was intelligent and charming, and he was able to blend in easily with society. He was also a master manipulator, and he was able to control his victims with ease.

Eastbound Strangler

15 Years Later, Police Still Searching for Eastbound Strangler. On November 20, 2006, two women out for a walk made a gruesome discovery: the bodies of four women had been discarded behind the Golden Key Motel in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. The women were fully clothed (except for their shoes and socks) and had been positioned, face-down, in a line behind the motel.

The victims were identified as Barbara Breidor, Molly Jean Dilts, Kim Raffo, and Tracy Ann Roberts. All four women were prostitutes who worked the streets of Atlantic City. They had all been strangled to death.

Police have never identified a suspect in the murders. There were several leads at the time, but they all turned out to be dead ends. In the years since the murders, police have re-examined the evidence several times, but they have not been able to make any progress.

William Devin Howell

Despite considerable effort on the part of law enforcement and many suspects having been considered, no definitive answers have been found, leaving four distraught families still seeking closure.

With a renewed appeal for information from Special Agent Richard Rennison, the authorities are hopeful that even the smallest piece of information could be significant in finally solving these murders.

Vickie Jackson

Vickie Jackson was a quiet woman who lived in a small town in North Texas. She worked as a nurse at a local hospital, and she seemed to be well-liked by her co-workers and patients. However, Jackson had a dark secret: she was a serial killer.

Between December 2000 and February 2001, Jackson killed at least 10 people and attempted to kill five more. She would inject her victims with a powerful drug called mivacurium chloride, which would paralyze their breathing and eventually cause them to suffocate. Lonnie David Franklin, Jr.

Lonnie David Franklin Jr. was an American serial killer, better known as The Grim Sleeper. He was responsible for at least 10 murders and one attempted murder from 1984 to 2007 in Los Angeles, CA. He was also convicted of sexual violence and rape. Franklin’s nickname stems from when he appeared to take a 14-year break from 1988 to 2002.

In July 2010, Franklin was arrested with his trial beginning in February 2016. The jury convicted him on May 5, 2016, of killing 9 women and a teenage girl. The jury recommended the death penalty on June 6, 2016, and the Los Angeles Superior Court sentenced him to death on August 10, 2016, for each of the 10 victims named in the verdict. Franklin was found dead in his San Quentin State Prison cell on March 28, 2020.

Serial Killer Self-Defense

It is possible to defend oneself against a serial killer, but it is important to remember that they are often very dangerous and unpredictable. If you believe that you are in danger of being attacked by a serial killer, you should take the following steps:

Run away. If possible, run away from the attacker as quickly as possible.
