While it may be comforting to think that the “Golden Age of Serial Killers” is long gone, but the reality is that numerous murderers are still roaming the streets. Despite the notorious names of infamous deceased killers such as Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz, Jeffrey Dahmer, and the recent identification and death of The Zodiac Killer, the new millennium still holds a terrifying list of serial killers.
It is quite alarming to know that many notorious and dangerous serial killers are still out there on the loose, evading the long arm of the law and continuing to commit heinous atrocities. It is a stark reminder that our society is not immune to these horrific crimes. We must remain vigilant and cognizant of our surroundings at all times, to stay safe and prevent any incidents from occurring.
Here, we present to you a list of 16 possibly lesser-known, but serial killers nonetheless who have been active in the 21st century. We must remain informed about these individuals and work towards ensuring a safer future.
I-70 Killer
The spring of 2022 marked the 30th anniversary of a string of unsolved murders along a stretch of Interstate 70. Between April 8 and May 7, 1992, six people were shot and killed in Indiana, Kansas, and Missouri. The victims were all store clerks, and all were young, white women with long brown hair. They were all killed with a .22 caliber bullet, and there was no evidence of sexual assault or robbery.
Police have released a sketch of the suspect, but he has never been identified. He is described as white, with reddish or light brown hair, between 140 and 160 pounds, and around 5-foot-7.
In late 2021, law enforcement released a new sketch of the killer, based on witness accounts and aged to depict what the killer would look like three decades on. They also released a description of the gun used in the murders, which is a historic remake of an old German Navy pistol with a long barrel and a wooden forearm.
Police are still searching for the I-70 killer, and they are asking anyone with information to come forward. The case is still very much open, and there is still hope that someone will come forward with the information that leads to an arrest.
Wesley Brownlee
Wesley Brownlee, 43, of Stockton, was arrested on Saturday, October 15, 2022, in connection with a series of shootings that left six men dead and one woman wounded in Stockton and Oakland, California.
Brownlee was arrested after a surveillance team followed him while he was driving and “determined he was on a mission to kill,” according to Stockton Police Chief Stanley McFadden. Brownlee is facing seven counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. He is being held without bail.
The shootings began in early September 2022 and continued through late October 2022. The victims were all men between the ages of 21 and 54. The woman who was wounded was shot in the leg. Police said they believe Brownlee acted alone. They have not released a motive for the shootings.
Brownlee’s arrest brings an end to a terrifying string of killings that terrorized the Stockton community. The community is relieved that the suspect has been caught and that the killings have stopped.
Brownlee has a criminal history dating back to 1999. He has been convicted of assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, and burglary. He was released from prison in 2019.
Darren Deon Vann
Darren Deon Vann was arrested in 2014 for the murder of a 19-year-old prostitute. He has since confessed to killing at least six more women. Vann was no stranger to the law. In 2009, he was convicted of aggravated rape in Texas. He served five years in prison and was released in 2013.
After his release, Vann returned to his home state of Indiana. In July 2013, he killed 19-year-old Afrikka Hardy. He strangled her and left her body in the bathtub of a motel room.
Vann was caught on surveillance cameras leaving the motel room. When police questioned him, he confessed to killing Hardy and six other women. He led investigators to the bodies of the six women, which he had left in abandoned buildings around Gary, Indiana.
Vann is facing charges of murder, rape, attempted murder, and criminal confinement. He is also facing the death penalty for his crimes.
Here are some additional details about the case:
- The victims were all African American women.
- They were all found in abandoned buildings in Gary, Indiana.
- All of the victims were known by Vann.
- Vann strangled or suffocated all of the victims.
- Vann has not provided a motive for the killings.
The case has drawn national attention and has been the subject of books, documentaries, and podcasts. The victims’ families are seeking justice for their loved ones.
Gilgo Beach Killer
In 2011, police in New York were investigating the death of Shannan Gilbert, who was found dead near Gilgo Beach on Long Island. While searching the area, they found a grave containing the bodies of four women. A further search uncovered six more bodies, including a child and a man dressed in women’s clothing.
Police linked some of the body parts found in the grave to unidentified victims whose bodies had been found miles away, dating back to 1996. Most of the victims are believed to be sex workers who advertised on Craigslist, but only a few have been positively identified.
One of the victims was Melissa Barthelemy, who had disappeared from her home in the Bronx in 2009. Her parents called the police, but authorities did not take their concerns seriously until Barthelemy’s little sister started receiving phone calls from a mysterious number. The caller would say, “I killed Melissa.”
Despite some leads, the killer has not been identified and remains at large.
Here are some additional details about the case:
- The victims were all young women, most of them in their 20s and 30s.
- They were all found in remote areas of Long Island, near highways or railroad tracks.
- Many of the victims had been strangled or suffocated.
- Some of the victims had been dismembered.
- The killer has never been identified.
The Gilgo Beach murders are one of the most notorious unsolved serial killer cases in the United States. The case has attracted national attention and has been the subject of books, documentaries, and podcasts. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, the killer has never been caught.
Israel Keyes
Israel Keyes was a serial killer who murdered at least 11 people across the United States. He was a former soldier who was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 2001.
Keyes was a meticulous planner and took great care to avoid leaving a trail. He would often travel to different locations and select victims of opportunity, rather than having a preferred victim type. He would also bury caches of weapons and tools in various locations across the country, which he would use to commit his crimes.
In 2011, Keyes traveled to Vermont and dug up a “murder kit” that he had buried in 2009. He then picked a couple at random and brutally murdered them. In 2012, Keyes kidnapped 18-year-old Samantha Koenig from Anchorage, Alaska. He held her captive for several days, during which time he sexually assaulted her and tortured her. He then murdered Koenig and disposed of her body in a frozen lake.
Keyes was eventually caught in Texas after using Koenig’s ATM card. He was extradited to Alaska and charged with rape, kidnapping, and murder. He confessed to murdering four individuals in Washington state and one in New York and is suspected of more crimes. Keyes committed suicide in his jail cell in December 2012, before he could be convicted of any of his crimes.
Keyes was a complex and elusive individual. He was intelligent and charming, and he was able to blend in easily with society. He was also a master manipulator, and he was able to control his victims with ease.
Keyes’s crimes were horrific and senseless. He took the lives of innocent people, and he caused immense pain and suffering to their families. He is a reminder of the evil that exists in the world, and he is a cautionary tale about the dangers of trusting strangers.
Eastbound Strangler
15 Years Later, Police Still Searching for Eastbound Strangler. On November 20, 2006, two women out for a walk made a gruesome discovery: the bodies of four women had been discarded behind the Golden Key Motel in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. The women were fully clothed (except for their shoes and socks) and had been positioned, face-down, in a line behind the motel.
The victims were identified as Barbara Breidor, Molly Jean Dilts, Kim Raffo, and Tracy Ann Roberts. All four women were prostitutes who worked the streets of Atlantic City. They had all been strangled to death.
Police have never identified a suspect in the murders. There were several leads at the time, but they all turned out to be dead ends. In the years since the murders, police have re-examined the evidence several times, but they have not been able to make any progress.
In December 2021, Chief of County Investigations Bruce Shields issued a renewed appeal for information in the case. He said that police are still working on the case and that they are hopeful that someone will come forward with information that will lead to an arrest.
The Eastbound Strangler is a dangerous individual who has shown no remorse for his crimes. He is still out there, and he is still a threat to women. Police are asking anyone with information about the case to come forward, no matter how small it may seem. Every piece of information could be the key to catching this killer and bringing him to justice.
William Devin Howell
In 2015, human remains were found behind a Connecticut strip mall. The bodies were found in the same area where three other bodies had been discovered in 2007. Investigators believe that all seven bodies were the victims of William Devin Howell, a drifter who was already in prison for the manslaughter of Nilsa Arizmendia.
Arizmendia was last seen getting into a van in 2003. Her blood was later found in Howell’s 1985 Ford Econoline van, which he allegedly called his “murder mobile.” Howell is believed to have slept next to the body of at least one of his victims in the van.
Howell was led to the police after his cellmate told them about Howell’s “garden” where he buried his victims. The garden was located behind a strip mall in New Britain, Connecticut. Howell was working odd jobs in the area in 2003 when all of the victims disappeared.
Howell pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Arizmendia in 2007. He is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence. He has not yet been tried for the six other murders. The trial is expected to begin in 2018.
The victims of Howell’s crimes were:
- Nilsa Arizmendia, Melanie Camilini, Danny Whistnant, Diane Cusack, Marilyn Gonzalez, Mary Jane Menard, Joyvaline Martinez
The families of the victims have been left devastated by the crimes. They are hoping that Howell will be brought to justice and that they will finally get some closure.
Jefferson Davis 8
The victims, all women, were all local to the area and knew each other. They were also involved in sex work and had criminal records.
The first victim, Loretta Lewis, was found floating in a river in May 2005. The other victims were Ernestine Marie Daniels Patterson, Kristen Gary Lopez, Whitnei Dubois, Laconia “Muggy” Brown, Crystal Shay Benoit Zeno, Brittney Gary, and Necole Guillory.
The women were killed in different ways and their bodies were found in different locations. However, they all had one thing in common: they were all involved in sex work and had criminal records.
Private investigator Ethan Brown believes that the murders are connected to the area’s drug trade. He claims that the women were killed because they were witnesses to drug deals or because they were involved in prostitution.
Brown has been investigating the murders for several years and has accused the local law enforcement of incompetence and misconduct. He believes that the police have not done enough to solve the murders and that they may even be involved in a cover-up.
The murders of the Jeff Davis 8 remain unsolved. Brown continues to investigate the case and is hopeful that he will eventually find justice for the victims.
Here are some additional details about the murders:
- The women were all found in Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana.
- They were all killed between 2005 and 2009.
- All of the women were involved in sex work and had criminal records.
- The women were all killed in different ways and their bodies were found in different locations.
- Private investigator Ethan Brown believes that the murders are connected to the area’s drug trade.
- Brown has been investigating the murders for several years and has accused the local law enforcement of incompetence and misconduct.
- The murders of the Jeff Davis 8 remain unsolved.
Michael Madison
In July 2013, the bodies of three women were found wrapped in garbage bags in East Cleveland, Ohio. The women were identified as Shirellda Terry, Angela Deskins, and Shetisha Sheeley. All three had been brutally murdered.
The bodies were found near the home of Michael Madison, a registered sex offender who had been convicted of attempted rape in 2002. Madison was arrested and confessed to the murders. He told police that he had strangled the women and then dumped their bodies.
Madison’s trial began in 2014. During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence that Madison had been planning the murders for months. They showed that Madison had purchased a sawed-off rifle and a variety of other weapons and that he had been carrying around a “kill kit” in a black duffle bag. The prosecution also presented testimony from Madison’s ex-wife, who said that he had been obsessed with Middle Eastern people and had made threats to kill them.
The jury deliberated for less than 30 minutes before finding Madison guilty of three counts of murder. He was sentenced to the maximum sentence of 75 years to life in prison.
Madison’s crimes were a tragedy for the victims and their families, and they also had a chilling effect on the community. Many people in East Cleveland were afraid to go out alone, and some businesses even closed their doors for fear of being targeted. However, the swift arrest and conviction of Madison helped to restore a sense of security to the community, and it sent a message that those who commit such heinous crimes will be brought to justice.
One of the victims’ fathers, Van Terry, was so enraged by Madison’s crimes that he attacked him in court. Terry lunged across the courtroom and tried to strangle Madison. The attack was caught on video and went viral. Terry’s attack was a powerful statement of grief and anger. It showed the world how much the victims’ families were suffering, and it called attention to the need for justice.
Madison was eventually sentenced to death for the murders. He is currently on death row, awaiting execution.
Salvatore Perrone
A serial killer was on the loose in Brooklyn, targeting shopkeepers of Middle Eastern descent. The killer was careful not to leave any evidence behind, and the police were baffled.
Then, in July 2012, the killer struck again. This time, the victim was Mohamed Gebeli, a 65-year-old shopkeeper who was found shot to death in his store. The police were able to recover a single shell casing from the scene, which they were able to match to a gun that had been stolen from a home in Staten Island.
The police now had a lead, and they quickly identified the suspect as Salvatore Perrone, a 67-year-old Staten Island resident who had a history of mental illness. Perrone was arrested without incident, and he was charged with murder.
During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence that Perrone had been planning the murders for months. They showed that Perrone had purchased a sawed-off rifle and a variety of other weapons and that he had been carrying around a “kill kit” in a black duffle bag. The prosecution also presented testimony from Perrone’s ex-wife, who said that he had been obsessed with Middle Eastern people and had made threats to kill them.
The jury deliberated for less than 30 minutes before finding Perrone guilty of three counts of murder. He was sentenced to the maximum sentence of 75 years to life in prison.
Perrone’s crimes were a tragedy for the victims and their families, and they also had a chilling effect on the community. Many people in Brooklyn were afraid to go out alone, and some businesses even closed their doors for fear of being targeted. However, the swift arrest and conviction of Perrone helped to restore a sense of security to the community, and it sent a message that those who commit such heinous crimes will be brought to justice.
Killing Fields of Texas
Heide Villareal Fye’s disappearance in 1983 and the subsequent discovery of her remains in The Killing Fields of Texas marked the foreboding beginning of a dark chapter in the area’s history. The horrifying discovery of the bodies of Laura Miller and an unidentified woman who came to be known as Jane Doe a few years later in the same vicinity further added to the mystery surrounding the crimes.
It wasn’t until 2019 that the victims were identified as Audrey Lee Cook and Donna Gonsoulin Prudhomme, respectively. Despite considerable effort on the part of law enforcement and many suspects having been considered, no definitive answers have been found, leaving four distraught families still seeking closure.
With a renewed appeal for information from Special Agent Richard Rennison, the authorities are hopeful that even the smallest piece of information could be significant in finally solving these murders.
Vickie Jackson
Vickie Jackson was a quiet woman who lived in a small town in North Texas. She worked as a nurse at a local hospital, and she seemed to be well-liked by her co-workers and patients. However, Jackson had a dark secret: she was a serial killer.
Between December 2000 and February 2001, Jackson killed at least 10 people and attempted to kill five more. She would inject her victims with a powerful drug called mivacurium chloride, which would paralyze their breathing and eventually cause them to suffocate. Jackson would then leave the bodies to be found by other nurses or doctors.
The hospital where Jackson worked was plagued by a rash of respiratory deaths, but because the patients were all elderly, the deaths were not considered suspicious. However, administrators eventually realized that several vials of mivacurium chloride had gone missing. When they investigated, they found that Jackson had been the last person to enter the rooms of all of the dead patients. Additionally, they found that Jackson had been making statements about “taking care” of unruly hospital guests.
Investigators eventually arrested Jackson and charged her with murder. She pleaded no contest to the charges in 2006, but she never admitted her guilt. She is currently serving a life sentence in prison.
Jackson’s case is a reminder that even the most seemingly innocent people can be capable of great evil. It is also a reminder that healthcare workers are held to a high standard of care and that any suspicious behavior should be reported immediately.

Chillicothe Killer in Ohio
The small town of Chillicothe, Ohio has been haunted by the disappearance of six women in the past two years. The women, many of whom were mothers of small children, have all disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
The first woman to disappear was Charlotte Trego, a 27-year-old mother of two. She was last seen on May 3, 2014, when she left her apartment to go for a walk. She has not been seen or heard from since. A year later, on May 20, 2015, 26-year-old Tiffany Sayre disappeared. She was last seen leaving her home to go to work. Her body was found wrapped in a sheet in a culvert in a nearby county on May 24, 2015.
In total, six women have disappeared from Chillicothe in the past two years. Only four of the bodies have been found. The other two women are still missing. The families of the victims are confident that the cases are linked. They believe that a serial killer is on the loose. Police are not as certain, but they have not ruled out the possibility.
A task force has been assembled to investigate the cases. The task force includes members of the FBI, the county sheriff’s department, and local authorities. The task force has interviewed hundreds of people and followed up on hundreds of leads, but they have not been able to identify a suspect.
Suspected serial killer Neal Falls, who was killed by an escort he attacked in 2015, may be linked to the crimes. Police believe that a convicted torturer named Ernest “Dollar Bill” Moore may have information about the missing women. But for now, there are no answers for the families of the victims or the terrified town.
The disappearances of these women have had a devastating impact on the community. The families of the victims are living in fear, and the town is on edge. The police are doing everything they can to find the killer, but they need the public’s help. If you have any information about the disappearances, please contact the Chillicothe Police Department.

Serial Killer Self-Defense
It is possible to defend oneself against a serial killer, but it is important to remember that they are often very dangerous and unpredictable. If you believe that you are in danger of being attacked by a serial killer, you should take the following steps:
- Run away. If possible, run away from the attacker as quickly as possible.
- Scream for help. If you are in a public place, scream for help to attract attention.
- Fight back. If you cannot run away or scream for help, you may need to fight back. Use whatever means necessary to defend yourself, including self-defense weapons if you have them.
It is important to remember that there is no guarantee that you will be able to defend yourself against a serial killer. However, by taking the above steps, you can increase your chances of survival.
Here are some additional tips for self-defense against a serial killer:
- Be aware of your surroundings. Pay attention to people who seem out of place or who are following you.
- Trust your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable with someone, don’t be afraid to leave the situation.
- Carry a personal alarm, pepper spray, or a stun gun. These can be used to deter an attacker or to give you time to escape.
- Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back. This will help someone know if you are missing.
- If you are attacked, fight back as hard as you can. Don’t give up.
Serial killers are dangerous individuals, but it is possible to defend yourself against them. By taking the above steps, you can increase your chances of survival. Serial Killers are aggressive, vicious, and relentless individuals – but not invincible. In the real world, you are not facing immortal beings or actual demons from Hell. Serial Killers may be monsters, but they are regular men and women who can be injured, subdued, and overpowered. Fight back, like your life depends on it, which in these cases, it does!
It is a collective responsibility of every member of our society to play an active role in helping to nab these perpetrators of evil, by reporting any suspicious activities or behavior to the appropriate authorities. We must work together as a unified force to root out this scourge of serial killing from our midst, for the sake of our own safety and that of our loved ones.
As always, be safe and be prepared.
