I need knives, lots of knives. Besides maybe The Crow, the John Wick movies are my absolute favorites. They are well-made action flicks with spectacular fight scenes, interesting characters, and compelling storylines. If you like this type of movie. It’s a revenge story at its core, but it is also a story about loss, grief, and redemption. Don’t mess with this man’s dog.
The action scenes are some of the best in recent memory. They are well-choreographed, brutal, and non-stop. They are always exciting to watch. Keanu Reeves is also great in the role of John Wick, and he brings a lot of charisma and intensity to the role. His attention to detail and the ridiculous amount of time and dedication he has spent training for this role are quite apparent.
And let’s not forget John Wick’s arsenal. Let’s talk gear! He uses a variety of weapons and gadgets, all of which are very stylish and effective. Some of his most iconic gear includes his custom-made bulletproof suits, his Taran Tactical guns, lots of guns, and even a pencil.
Besides his standard set of gear, upgraded each sequel, the latest JW4 included another next-level weapon. Just when you thought his OTF knives were top of the line, along comes another. He used a Microtech Ultratech UTX-70 OTF ($260) in JW1, a Microtech Combat Troodon ($550) in JW2, and a Microtech Cypher D/E OTF ($500) in JW3.
So which “Microtech OTF” does John Wick use in JW4? None.
The $1800+ Hawk Knife Designs Deadlock Model C OTF wins that honor. Base Price: $1,800, Tumbled Titanium Handle, Tumbled Titanium Accents, Standard Carbon Fiber Inlays. But free shipping, if you can get one.
The Hawk Knife Designs Deadlock Model C OTF knife is a high-end automatic knife made by Grant and Gavin Hawk. It is a double-action knife, which means that the blade can be deployed and retracted with either the thumb or the index finger. The Deadlock Model C has a 3.5-inch blade made of CPM 20CV steel, which is a very tough and corrosion-resistant steel. The knife weighs 5.3 ounces and has an overall length of 8.5 inches.
Besides all of the superior materials, the best feature is the “deadlock” zero play on the blade when deployed. All OTFs suffer from slight blade wiggle, due to the nature of how OTF knives work. Hawk Knife Designs have eliminated this, at a significant cost. Is it worth it? Probably, but also probably out of the reach of normal consumers.
So let’s talk knives. If you want the Best $1800+, there is no other. If you want some other more budget-friendly John Wick-style alternative knives, we have some at Better $500 and Good $60.
Best $1800+
If you have the $1800 for a base model or $3500 for the JW4 Commemorative in the wooden display box, go with Grant and Gavin Hawk’s. However, if you are on a budget, there are other OTF knives that are available for a fraction of the price.
Better $500
In the better range, you could always go with one of the cheaper Microtech models used in JW1-3. They were previously good enough for John Wick. Another great option in this price range is the Benchmade Infidel. The Benchmade Infidel is an out-the-front (OTF) automatic knife. It was designed by William Harsey and is manufactured by Benchmade. The Infidel was first released in 2009 and has been a popular knife among collectors and users ever since.
The Infidel has a double-edged dagger blade made of D2 tool steel. The blade is 3.91 inches long and has a black finish. The handle is made of black anodized T6 aluminum and has a jimped thumb ramp for easy deployment. The Infidel also has a safety switch that prevents the blade from being deployed accidentally. The Infidel is a very well-made knife and is known for its smooth action and reliable performance. It is a popular choice for self-defense and everyday carry and will run you around $495.
Good $60
In the sub-hundred budget range, the Atomic Knives line of out-the-front (OTF) automatic knives are made with quality materials and construction. They feature a variety of blade styles and handle materials. The Atomic Knives OTF is a popular choice for self-defense and everyday carry. The knives are known for their smooth action, reliable performance, and sharp blades. They are also relatively affordable, making them a good value for the price. We carry Atomic Knives OTF automatic heavy duty knife – double-edge blades and single-edge blades at Black Belt Defender. But alas, they are not “deadlock”.
Let’s be real… what are you going to do with your OTF knife anyways? Tear through an army of bad guys like John Wick, or tear through a bunch of Amazon boxes like a normal guy? We aren’t judging, I haven’t even opened a box with my Infidel. But it’s still cool as hell.
Although, for $59.46 each, you can buy both a double edge blade and a single edge Atomic Knife and still have plenty of money left over for ammo. We all need the range practice to be marginally as good of a shot as John Wick. But hey, we can still have a cool knife like him. To open boxes. Lots of boxes.
